Knee & Hip Replacement

Hip & Knee - Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement

Hip and knee arthroscopy represent minimally invasive surgical methods using small portals for instruments and a camera to diagnose and treat internal joint issues. For the knee, common arthroscopic interventions include meniscal repair or resection, ligament reconstruction (like ACL), and cartilage procedures. Hip arthroscopy can address conditions such as labral tears and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), allowing for direct visualisation and targeted treatment within these complex joints, and facilitating the management of specific pathologies affecting the hip and knee.

On the other hand, hip and knee joint replacement surgery (arthroplasty) is typically indicated for end-stage joint disease, commonly severe osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, or significant post-traumatic degeneration. These procedures involve resurfacing or replacing the damaged joint components with artificial implants. As primary weight-bearing joints, advanced hip and knee conditions often cause substantial pain and mobility restrictions. Arthroplasty aims to provide significant pain relief and improve function when non-surgical management is no longer effective for these lower limb joints.
