Shoulder & Elbow - Arthroscopy and Joint Replacement

Shoulder and elbow arthroscopy are minimally invasive techniques employing small incisions for instrument and camera insertion to address intra-articular conditions. Within the shoulder, this approach allows direct visualisation for procedures such as rotator cuff repair, labral tear management, and decompression for impingement. In the elbow, arthroscopy can be utilised for removing loose bodies, addressing stiffness, or managing conditions like tennis elbow. It facilitates detailed joint assessment and targeted interventions for pathology specific to these upper limb joints.

Meanwhile, shoulder and elbow joint replacement surgery, or arthroplasty, addresses advanced joint deterioration often arising from severe arthritis or complex trauma. This involves replacing the damaged articular surfaces with specialised artificial implants. Shoulder replacement is considered for significant pain and functional loss, while elbow replacement may be indicated for similar reasons, particularly debilitating arthritis or non-reconstructible fractures. These procedures aim to alleviate substantial pain and restore functional movement when conservative treatments prove insufficient for managing advanced shoulder or elbow joint problems.
